Organizational structure determines how the roles, power and responsibilities are assigned, controlled, and coordinated, and how information flows between the different levels of management.
A structure depends on the Fire Department objectives and strategy. In a centralized structure, the top layer of management has most of the decision making power and has tight control over departments and divisions.
Like any other disciplined organization, the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services has a rank structure that denotes the hierarchy of its operational management.
At present, the Fire and Ambulance Services consists of:
- 1 Fire Chief Officer - Mr. Josiah Dupis
- 1 Deputy Fire Chief Officer - Mr. Farley Riviere
- 5 Station Officers
- 8 Sub-Station Officers
- 16 Leading Firemen
- 99 Firemen
- 1 Junior Clerk
The Last recruit training was held from March 1st to June 30, 2016 and a total of 27 officers (21 males and 6 females) were recruited.
The first female Fire Officers were recruited in 1999: Thora Robinson and Frederika Lewis (Deceased).
